Activities

Casa das Estevas is located in the centre of Portugal, a thinly populated and wooded region: rugged and wild landscape with gigantic boulders scattered on the rolling hills. A perfect base for both culture enthusiasts  and the active nature lovers.

Culture

Casa das Estevas is the perfect base for half-day or full-day trips to historical places as:

  • Vila Velha de Ródão region (Portas de Ródão, Portas de Almourão)
  • Castelo Branco
  • Castelo de Vide and Marvão
  • Monsanto (proclaimed to be the most Portuguese town)
  • Fatima, Tomar, Batalha and Alcobaça
  • Coimbra, Conimbriga and the Buçaco Forest
  • Elvas, Evora, Evoramonte and Estremoz
  • Serra de Estrela with theTorre (highest point of Portugal)
  • Serra de Gardunha
  • Óbidos and Peniche

Any culture enthusiast will definitely find plenty to enjoy in the region such as visiting the pre-historic excavations, ruins, etc.

Or you can meander all day from one quaint white town to another for they seem to just pop up out of the abandoned landscape and / or to the many villages where time has seemingly stood still (aldeias historicas).

Sports

There are several nature walks to choose from departing from the Casa. Good quality walking boots are recommended.

Of course for the active and/or adventurous nature lovers, there are a variety of different outdoor activities that can be found in neighbouring areas such as: swimming, kayaking, moutain biking, wall climbing…

For beach lovers and families with children there are the numerous landscaped beaches along the rivers. These are usually equipped with sanitary, catering establishments and children’s playground.
